Joan Loves the Color Blue...
Joan Hennessy
You were born in 1930, and grew up in Williston Park, Long Island, on Collins Avenue, just 2 blocks over from Leo Blatz, who lived on Park Avenue. You went to Mineola High School, and knew the Blatz family because you were friends with June, who lived across the street on Park Avenue. At first, because you were not allowed to cross the street, you and Alice and June just yelled to each other. Then, over the years you became closer friends and were together because you belonged to the Young Adults Club at St. Aidan’s Church. Later, you visited with the Blatz family out on the north shore of Long Island on Peconic Bay, where they always rented a summer cottage or two for a few weeks.
One Easter you accompanied the Blatz family to the convent where Marie was living, and where there was a piƱata.
Favorite excursions included the Flying L Ranch, which is a dude ranch in New York State, where single people liked to go in their 20’s and beyond.
You like Hawaiian Music and Frank Sinatra and many others.
When Sarah, Leo’s first grandchild was a baby, you were sailing with Leo out on Peconic Bay, and had a very good time, laughing and made us wonder who you were. Now we know you as a wonderful, and amazing person, who was part of the family all along. Happy Birthday to a great stepmom, grandma and friend!
Thanks for being so good to all of us and for making our lives so full of love and happiness.
